North Hollywood, affectionately known as NoHo, is one of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Anchored by the vibrant NoHo Arts District, this area blends the creative energy of an urban center with the residential charm of established tree-lined streets. Homeowners here often seek a distinct aesthetic: spaces that feel cool, creative, and modern, yet comfortable enough for daily living. At Nobel Builders, we understand that a kitchen in North Hollywood needs to be as versatile as the neighborhood itself.
Our recent kitchen remodeling project in North Hollywood captures this unique spirit. The property, a classic 1950s stucco bungalow located just minutes from the Arts District, had “good bones” but suffered from a layout that felt closed off and dated. The kitchen was a small, tiled box that didn’t reflect the homeowner’s modern taste or their love for entertaining. Our mission was to blow open the walls and create an “Urban Oasis”, a space that merges industrial design elements with the warmth of a family home.
The housing stock in North Hollywood often presents a specific challenge: square footage. Unlike the sprawling ranch homes of the West Valley, NoHo bungalows can be compact. The homeowners needed their kitchen to work harder. They wanted a chef-grade workspace that also functioned as a dining area and a social hub, all within a modest footprint.
We began by reimagining the flow. The original layout trapped the kitchen behind a laundry room and a hallway wall. By removing these non-structural barriers, we connected the kitchen directly to the living room, borrowing visual space to make the entire home feel larger. This open-concept conversion is essential for smaller homes, allowing natural light from the front windows to penetrate all the way to the back of the house, eliminating dark corners and improving the overall mood of the interior.
To match the artistic vibe of the 91601 zip code, we steered the design toward an “Industrial Modern” aesthetic. This style celebrates raw materials and clean lines but softens them with organic textures to ensure the space doesn’t feel cold.
In a smaller kitchen, efficiency is king. We utilized custom Euro-style cabinetry with flat-panel doors to create a sleek, seamless look that reduces visual clutter. We extended the cabinets all the way to the ceiling, utilizing every inch of vertical space for long-term storage of seldom-used items like holiday platters or large stock pots.
Instead of a bulky traditional island, we designed a slim-profile peninsula with a “waterfall” edge. This feature provides ample prep space and bar seating for three without encroaching on the living room floor plan. It defines the kitchen zone while keeping the conversation open between the cook and the guests on the sofa.

We had talked to 4-5 different contractors and Nobel easily came out on top for their attention to detail and thoughtfulness put into every part of our project from day 1. Sean was an amazing project lead and was with us from the start through the finish, on site every single day answering all of our questions, leading the team, and continually updating us on what was next. They walked us through the design process and listened to all the research we had done and reviewed all the inspiration we had pulled. They never said no to anything we wanted, but did help us to see that practical need or lack thereof of some items and features we thought we wanted after seeing them online. Their deep experience in kitchen design and remodeling helped us see what was truly necessary and how it would be used in our everyday lives. They made amazing suggestions that solved the same problems in ways we couldn't have imagined. They even helped steer us in the right direction on the types of appliances we were getting by sharing their experience from other projects and customers. They helped us with vendor recommendations and let us use their discount to save on high-ticket items like countertops and flooring. As with any project, there were several unexpected items that came up during the process. Nobel took care of some of them at no additional cost, and gave us several options for the larger fixes that required more work - all at very reasonable prices. Sean was super responsive on text, and would end each day by telling us what was coming up the next couple of days and what we could expect for that week. They also worked around our busy schedule and stopped and started a few times when we were out of town. Nobel did everything possible to make what is an incredibly disruptive project - being without your kitchen for an extended period of time - as manageable as possible. In the end, we LOVE our new kitchen! The design is amazing, the cabinets are gorgeous, which isn't a surprise given they're all custom made and this is their specialty. Our kitchen feels like it has so much more light and space in it even though we didn't expand anything, all thanks to their design touches and ideas. Nobel was a fantastic partner to work with and we would highly recommend them! Michael HaroshTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I decided to use Nobel Builders to remodel a rental property that needed a serious update before being rented again. The unit needed a full renovation, we did drywall, flooring, lighting, cabinets, countertops, tile, and electrical upgrades. I wanted to get the it back on the market quickly and Nobel Builders came through. Sean and his team were quick & efficient. They provided samples and took care of sourcing all the materials, kept the project on schedule, and handled any unexpected issues. I appreciated that Sean was available to answer my questions and provide guidance. The end result came out amazing—the apartment looks brand new. The project was smooth and I’ll definitely work with Nobel Builders again. Sean valued our timeline and budget without compromising on quality. As a designer, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Sean and the Nobel Builders team on a bathroom renovation project for one of my clients. We wanted to create something unique for this space, so we needed a general contractor who was both creative and detail-oriented. I am thrilled that we chose Nobel Builders because the final product exceeded our expectations. Initially, we planned to tile the back of the tub area, but then we decided to use stacked stone to achieve a more luxurious and natural ambiance. The stacked stone went perfectly with the river rocks. I highly recommend working with Sean and the Nobel Builders team. They are genuinely committed to delivering quality results for their clients. I look forward to collaborating with them on more projects in the future. Jonathan AzarkmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. In North Hollywood’s competitive real estate market, Nobel Builders specializes in modernizing mid-century infrastructure while maximizing long-term investment potential. For this project, we bought a 1950s bungalow up to code by replacing cast-iron drains with ABS piping and upgrading the electrical system to a 200-amp service, a strategic move that future-proofs the property for potential ADU garage conversions. Our team managed the entire LADBS permitting process, implementing a “low impact” construction strategy to minimize neighbor disruption in dense NoHo residential zones. By installing Energy Star-rated windows and insulation to combat San Fernando Valley heat, we created a high-performance, stylish workspace that aligns with NARI’s standards for functionality and resale value, transforming a standard bungalow into a premier property ready for the modern creative lifestyle.
