Granada Hills is a community with a distinct architectural soul. From the iconic Eichler homes of the Balboa Highlands to the sprawling ranch estates near Knollwood Country Club, this neighborhood represents the peak of mid-century suburban design. However, while these homes offer incredible charm and generous lots, their original kitchens often struggle to meet the demands of 21st-century life. At Nobel Builders, we specialize in walking that fine line: modernizing the function of a home without erasing the character that makes it special.
Our recent kitchen remodeling project in Granada Hills is a perfect case study in this balance. The property was a classic 1960s ranch that had been well-loved but remained frozen in time. The kitchen was compartmentalized, cut off from the beautiful backyard views, and featured original cabinetry that had seen better days. The homeowners wanted a space that felt fresh and expansive but still felt like it belonged in the house. Our goal was to honor the home’s “good bones” while delivering the open flow and high-end amenities of a luxury new build.
The challenge in Granada Hills is often the layout. Many homes here were built when formal dining rooms were strictly separated from the “service” areas. In this project, a non-structural wall created a dark corridor between the kitchen and the den. The homeowners felt isolated while cooking and wanted to create a “Great Room” atmosphere where the family could gather.
We approached the demolition with surgical precision. We didn’t just knock down walls; we reimagined the volume of the space. By removing the dividing partition and vaulting the ceiling, we exposed the original roofline, a nod to the mid-century aesthetic that prizes airiness and light. This structural change instantly transformed the feel of the 2,000-square-foot home, making it feel significantly larger and more connected to the outdoors.
This design prioritizes the classic California “Indoor-Outdoor” lifestyle through a panoramic pass-through window, seamlessly connecting the kitchen to the patio bar.
The Island: An architectural centerpiece featuring walnut waterfall legs. It houses a pro-style induction cooktop and a retractable downdraft vent to maintain clear sightlines.
Open Concept: Replaces bulky cabinetry with a furniture-style island, allowing the chef to face guests while cooking.
Smart Materials: * Terrazzo-style Quartz: Heat-resistant and durable, nodding to LA’s historic aesthetic.
Porcelain Tile: Mimics polished concrete for an industrial look while staying cool during San Fernando Valley summers.

We had talked to 4-5 different contractors and Nobel easily came out on top for their attention to detail and thoughtfulness put into every part of our project from day 1. Sean was an amazing project lead and was with us from the start through the finish, on site every single day answering all of our questions, leading the team, and continually updating us on what was next. They walked us through the design process and listened to all the research we had done and reviewed all the inspiration we had pulled. They never said no to anything we wanted, but did help us to see that practical need or lack thereof of some items and features we thought we wanted after seeing them online. Their deep experience in kitchen design and remodeling helped us see what was truly necessary and how it would be used in our everyday lives. They made amazing suggestions that solved the same problems in ways we couldn't have imagined. They even helped steer us in the right direction on the types of appliances we were getting by sharing their experience from other projects and customers. They helped us with vendor recommendations and let us use their discount to save on high-ticket items like countertops and flooring. As with any project, there were several unexpected items that came up during the process. Nobel took care of some of them at no additional cost, and gave us several options for the larger fixes that required more work - all at very reasonable prices. Sean was super responsive on text, and would end each day by telling us what was coming up the next couple of days and what we could expect for that week. They also worked around our busy schedule and stopped and started a few times when we were out of town. Nobel did everything possible to make what is an incredibly disruptive project - being without your kitchen for an extended period of time - as manageable as possible. In the end, we LOVE our new kitchen! The design is amazing, the cabinets are gorgeous, which isn't a surprise given they're all custom made and this is their specialty. Our kitchen feels like it has so much more light and space in it even though we didn't expand anything, all thanks to their design touches and ideas. Nobel was a fantastic partner to work with and we would highly recommend them! Michael HaroshTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I decided to use Nobel Builders to remodel a rental property that needed a serious update before being rented again. The unit needed a full renovation, we did drywall, flooring, lighting, cabinets, countertops, tile, and electrical upgrades. I wanted to get the it back on the market quickly and Nobel Builders came through. Sean and his team were quick & efficient. They provided samples and took care of sourcing all the materials, kept the project on schedule, and handled any unexpected issues. I appreciated that Sean was available to answer my questions and provide guidance. The end result came out amazing—the apartment looks brand new. The project was smooth and I’ll definitely work with Nobel Builders again. Sean valued our timeline and budget without compromising on quality. As a designer, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Sean and the Nobel Builders team on a bathroom renovation project for one of my clients. We wanted to create something unique for this space, so we needed a general contractor who was both creative and detail-oriented. I am thrilled that we chose Nobel Builders because the final product exceeded our expectations. Initially, we planned to tile the back of the tub area, but then we decided to use stacked stone to achieve a more luxurious and natural ambiance. The stacked stone went perfectly with the river rocks. I highly recommend working with Sean and the Nobel Builders team. They are genuinely committed to delivering quality results for their clients. I look forward to collaborating with them on more projects in the future. Jonathan AzarkmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. In Granada Hills’ competitive real estate market, Nobel Builders specializes in transforming mid-century residences into high-performance, “turnkey” assets that maximize both functionality and ROI. For this project, we brought a 60-year-old home into full compliance with LADBS codes and California Title 24 Energy Standards by upgrading the electrical panel to support Energy Star appliances and replacing inefficient windows with Low-E glass to reduce cooling costs.
Beyond technical infrastructure and structural engineering, our design-build approach focused on creating an open-concept layout that aligns with NARI’s standards for high “Joy Scores” and resale value. By managing every administrative detail from permitting to final walkthrough, we delivered a luxury, energy-efficient workspace that honors the architectural soul of the North Valley while providing the modern reliability discerning buyers demand.
